Learn about the state-of-art in blade recycling
Wind turbines have a recyclability rate of around 85% to 90%. Most components of a wind turbine such as the foundation, tower, gearbox and generator can be recycled and are treated accordingly. However, for some components most notably wind turbine blades recycling is still a challenge due to the complex nature of the materials used in blades, the lack of circular business models and the low recovery rate of existing solutions.
Why recycling?
15,000 blades will be reaching the end of their designed life between 2018 and 2022. This is a significant volume that needs a certain logistic and technology in place in order to proceed to collection, transportation and waste management treatment. The wind energy sector wants to increase circularity within the sector and is therefore looking to support new recycling solutions.
In this webinar we will explore the benefits of existing solutions for blade recycling, identify future research and innovation actions for recycling technologies and provide an outlook on materials to developed as more sustainable alternatives for composite.
